What is the ES202 Database? The ES202 database is derived from company level data obtained by each state for unemployment compensation tax collection purposes. Nearly all employers with paid employees are required to file unemployment insurance reports (technically called ES202) to their respective states on a quarterly basis. Cleveland State University, on behalf of the Ohio ES202 Network, receives the data on a quarterly basis from the Bureau of Labor Market Information of the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family services. The data received from the state is confidential. It has information on most employers in the state. Variables include company name, address, zip code, city, county, industrial classification, number of employees, and total payroll. The Network developed a longitudinal database with employment and payroll estimates based on the data received from the state.
